The End Is Near

Check out this "save the date" card I just received. The thought is Motley Crue will announce their farewell tour later this month on January 28. I knew this retirement announcement was coming, but it's still sad. What do you think?

Seen them live three times and I won't miss them much. This farewell tour will go on and on so it'll be some time before M C is put to rest for good.

Given that this is my first real post since the holidays, I am going to be diplomatic:

To all who enjoyed MC, it's about time.

To all who still enjoy MC, I hope you enjoy the farewell tour.

To MC, stick to your word and make sure it is the final tour.

MC are a major slice of the pie that is metal. Nothing can take that away from them. My feelings about them as of late are well established. But who cares? I really do hope it is a great show for those that attend (assuming that this is the final tour announcement). For the rest of us, the CDs and tapes and videos and memories and such will do.

Besides, they all deserve a [Hooligan's] Holiday!

Motley Rules. Money talks. They aren't going anywhere.

Regardless of the "bad" news, the card is done with a great sense of humor. And it sure will sell tickets.

I'm with Bri. Let's hope they pull a KISS, or a Scorps or a Priest and come back after this one (which is supposed to last for years).

Why does this kinda remind me of a huge "LIQUIDATION!" sign in the window of an overpriced TV and appliance store at a strip mall?

Still, I feel like once Sixx decides something, it's done. Only time will tell but it looks as though the writing is on the wall.

It's partially about Micks health. If he was 100%, no way do they do this. Despite bad blood they are brothers and now feel MC is just the 4 of them.

Best to Mick.

Also this is a farewell "tour". As their age who wants to do 150 gigs a year. Mick willing, they will still be around.

Just a reminder for a dude like me that the clock is ticking....

Motley are the kings. Long live the Crüe! \m/

I really don't want the Crue to be finished. They are in my top three. Seen them three times, and if they do a tour I want to see them for sure. I hope they come to Salt Lake...one of the best bands to walk the face of the planet.

On December 17 1982 The Who played what they claimed would be their final concert ever. It was a monumental event that was broadcast live all over the world. I still have my cassettes of that night that I taped off the radio. But was it really their final concert?...At the time, my thirteen-year-old brain believed it was because, well, that's what the band had said. We all know that the two remaining members are still touring today as The Who. As far as I'm concerned, at the risk of sounding like a total skeptic, until every single member of any band is dead, I no longer believe retirement announcements.

Sixx is the master of bullshit. They will milk this farewell thing for a few years take a few off a come back due to the fans demands aka THE MONEY!
I saw them last year and the show was one of the lamest I ever seen them put on. Too many backing tracks and the same shitty set list they have been playing for the last 5 years.
None of them want to be there and they pretty much hate each other.
I love the Crue but they need to retire.

In a perfect world they would also have big news about "The Dirt" movie or one last final CD (they should take a cue from Ratt and take no prisoners like Ratt did w/"Infestation").

Motley Crue are my favorite band of all time but the their last 2 full length studio albums "New Tattoo" & "Saints Of Los Angeles" were huge disappointments. James Michael & DJ Ashba have no business writing Motley Crue songs. They made Motley Crue sound like a Motley Tribute band trying to write their own songs.

For me Motley Crue was perfection from 1981 ("Too Fast For Love") to 1998 ("Bitter Pill" & "Enslaved"). I know they aren't really popular w/most fans but I loved the "Motley Corabi" CD & "Generation Swine" as soon as I heard them the day they came out. I still play those CD's as much as I do the vintage 1980's stuff.

The last 15 years of Motley Crue has been nothing short of a letdown. I haven't played "New Tattoo" in years & have no real desire to, same thing w/"S.O.L.A". I had high hopes for both CD's & was quickly disappointed after listening to them.

The almost constant touring since 2005 has been really annoying. Pretty much the same setlist w/maybe a song or 2 dusted off every other tour. All the pyro & special effects they have added over the years doesn't really matter to me. They diluted the value of a Crue tour & saturated the market.

Sadly,I have very little interest in the farewell tour, Unless they:

A.Really flip the switch & add songs like "Black Widow", "Sinners & Saints", "Afraid", "Stick To Your Guns" or "Angela" to the setlist.

B.Bring John Corabi along & have him do a mini 3 or 4 song set in the middle of the concert. Preferably "Hooligans Holiday", "Poison Apples", "Misunderstood" & "Smoke The Sky".
(Give Vince a 20 minute break after the first half of the show & he'll come back full of energy for the second half).

I highly doubt they will do either things (I would love to be wrong though).

Also I'm 99.9% sure once they Finnish the tour, it will be released on DVD & maybe even be released on CD as well.
I'll be perfectly fine w/just having a DVD of the farewell tour.

I'm pretty confident this really will be the end.
Nikki has Sixx A.M & his radio show to keep him busy.
Vince already said he is still going to continue touring, doing his Motley cover band setlist.
Tommy hasn't really given a $hit about Motley since he left the band in 1999.
Mick is the odd man out.

Hopefully this will finally get them to empty out the vaults & give all the unreleased songs/demos I've been collecting over the years a proper release on CD & to also release DVD's of concerts from every tour from 1981 to 1998.

Oh Well,
Rest In Peace!
Motley Crue!

I completely disagree. They are on top of their game now. I saw them with Poison and the New York Dolls and Vince sounded amazing. The show was great, the songs were great, the drum solo kicked major ass, tons of new tricks, tons of old stuff, and a fun time. Long live the Crue. Ill make some shows for sure if it is a farewell tour.

As far as the Ashaba and Michael thing goes. I know they are not Motley Crue but they are incredible song writers. You can't argue some of the lyrics on SOLA. Incredible lyrics. And incredible solos by Mick...

I've seen crue a couple times once on generation swine tour which sucked and s.o.l.a. tour and thought it was great. I'll be there if they come around but for those saying its because Mick's health he has publicly stated that is not one of the reasons of the farewell. I bmyself believe its tommy also as he doesn't really wanna b there has stated he doesn't wanna record another cd just singles and not a big fan of that type of music anymore. Sad but was a nice ride.

Dj,
I last saw them on the first Crue Fest in 2008 & I had a blast, but touring for 6 years straight after "S.O.L.A" came out was/is very redundant.

The lyrics are the best part of the last 2 studio CD's, most if not all were written by Nikki. Only a handful of lyrics were co written by Michael on "New Tattoo". The music on both CD's was just very bland & lifeless for the most part except for the solo's which were written by Mick not Ashba & Michael.

For me, Motley Crue were on top of their live game in 1991 during the handful of shows they did to promote "Decade Of Decadence".
My 2 favorite concerts I've been to were:
1."Generation Swine" tour in 1997
2."Motley Corabi" tour in 1994

I wasn't trying to trash them, it pains me to admit that the last 2 CD's weren't very good.

I still love Motley Crue to death.
I have every single CD/DVD they ever came out with.
Both "Music To Crash Your Car To" boxsets.
"Too Fast For Love" Leathur records vinyl.
"Helter Skelter" vinyl picture disc.
13 Bootleg concert DVD's.
8 bootleg CD's.
Countless books,magazines,postcards,keychains,pins etc.
(I even have a couple bottles of the 'Motley Brew' soda the had out for a limited time in 1997).

I will still continue to collect all things Motley.
Even "New Tattoo" & "S.O.L.A" era & beyond stuff.
I'm a pretty diehard fan & even I can't really get in to those last 2 CD's.

From 1981 to 1997 they released 7 excellent studio album's.
From 2000 to 2014 they released only 2 studio album's w/way too much influence/help from Ashba & Michaels in the music writing department.
After Tommy left the band in 1999, they've never been the same.
They've turned into Sixx A.M writing the songs behind the scenes w/little to no input from any actual band members.
I don't mind a outside writer on a song or 2, but not 85% of the album.
Those aren't real Motley Crue albums.
They have been a shell of their former selves since 1999.

I completely agree with all of Jakki's comments.
Motley had something to prove with the Corabi disc. Some of that old school hunger was back and they came out with a badass cd. They also had something to prove with "Generation Swine". It was very innovative and still sounds fresh today.

"New Tattoo" is awful. Nikki just gave up and stopped trying to be creative. "New Tattoo" is the poor man's "Dr Feelgood". "Saints Of Los Angeles" is only slightly better than "New Tattoo".

The last cd if they do have another one will more than likely suffer from the same mediocre input from DJ Ashba and James Michaels. Motley should have pulled a Axl Rose and release only one cd in the past 16 years. They have released 10 or 12 really good songs since 2000 the rest are just lame filler.

The only thing that would make me sad about the Crue hanging it up. Would be if the last cd they do is really good but I'm not holding my breath.

I am a die hard Cruehead too, so that's why rant over them so much. Ha I totally agree with Generation Swine, it still sounds new and it is creative as hell. New Tattoo was indeed a step back, but it is all stripped down rock n roll in my opinion. Anyways Jakki you do have a point, when 85% is from an outsiders input. Its great, but it's not what i'd like with the actual band contributing. Maybe I kinda like it because I like SIXX AM too, but anyways, long live the Crue.
January 10, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDj
I'd like to add thay I've been a Crüehead since the old days. The Corabi release was not Motley Crüe though, it was like Scream crossed with Union. I like Crabs but he didn't have the personality to front the beast that is the Crüe. It is a decent record but just not up there with Motley's first 5, Swine or SOLA(which I and a lot of other fans loved). New Tattoo was bubble gum garbage but all great bands have that one release like that. I will definitely see them one or two times on this tour, because bands like them don't come along every day. I hope they change their minds but it'd be wise to go out when they're still packing them in, like they are now. The Crüe is the best....fuck the rest!

I understand where you are coming from Dj.
Sixx A.M has some pretty good music.
I actually really like DJ Ashba, he plays guitar for GNR as of today.
I just can't stand James Michaels voice. If they had a different singer, I would really like them.

I wasn't ragging on you or anything, Dj.
I think it's great that you are a crue head as well.
"Power To The Music"

I agree w/you, I remember hearing "Hell On High Heels" for the first time on the radio before "New Tattoo" came out & I loved it but it didn't make any sense as a follow up to "Generation Swine". It was a complete step backwards, also a leftover song from the 'Dr Feelgood' recording sessions.

I love some songs from "New Tattoo" & "S.O.L.A" but not many.

P.S-Outsider,You are right about your assessment of the "Motley Corabi" & "Generation Swine" CD's. To me, both of those CD's still sound fresh today.

I'd rather be face down in the dirt with a bullet in my head.

On topic enough, jakki?

for those who don't know...live it, then we'll have a real discussion.

I thought that metalbuy was the post police. I didn't realize it is the outsider...though I totally get where s/he is cumming from.
