The Download Festival Announcement Is Today

Download will make a "major announcement" today. Presumably it's the full lineup. Interestingly, a rumored poster leaked online over the weekend and it is below. I wonder just how accurate this poster is... all signs point to the bands being very legit. We'll see soon I guess.

Kinda figured Motley would be there, considering they're goin out. But KISS????? Get those assclowns outta there, Motley should headline that day. Regardless of the fact that Gene "invented and inspired" everybody on the bill because he is the almighty god of everything, I don't think they should headline a metal and rock n roll festival when they say that it's "dead." Love a lot of the records but I have a bee up my ass about them. Manson, Papa Roach, Black Veil Brides, Slipknot, and the all mighty Judas F%#}%*G Priest deserve it all. Amazing bands and a pretty rad lineup. Take KISS out and bring in Alice Cooper and the Foo Fighters. Still the coolest festival around in my opinion.

DJ, Motley is under KISS because in every way, KISS has always been superior. Motley started as a watered down KISS knockoff, & really just genre-jumped to whatever was popular. KISS has sold 140% of what Motley has, and has always been a bigger draw than just about anyone. The only headliner I questeion on here, is Slipknot. Especially over Judas Priest. That's ridiculous!

I hate to disagree with you Ace. KISS may have sold more records and are more well known by mainstream media (ie:KISS Hello Kitty) but I think Motley should headline just because it's their final run out, and in my opinion are more of a rock n roll band and have better songs than KISS. I love some of KISS don't get me wrong, I just think they shouldn't be taken seriously, especially with half of their lineup and being a joke within itself. I agree and disagree with the Slipknot thing, again Priest is more legendary and have the records to prove it, I think Slipknot is headlining because it is their big year back, and their stage show and energy is on a whole new level. Stay metal. \m/

DJ- I hear you but I think KISS should get credit for their 40+ year history. They inspired Crue and a lot of the other bands we love.

Kiss is just a silly cartoon joke phoney band.
Motley Crue are the real deal & would never dress somebody up like previous band members & try to pretend like it's the same thing.
Motley Crue definitely has 10x better songs than Kiss.
I'm not completely sold on Kiss being any kind of inspiration for Motley Crue.
I've read plenty of interviews where Nikki & Tommy especially were ripping on Kiss hardcore.
Why they even toured w/Kiss a few years ago blows my mind (must be the money?).
I've seen tons of old interviews & they never mention Kiss as any kind of inspiration.
They mentioned Scorpions & Def Leppard a lot but never Kiss. Also they said repeatedly that they lost any kind of respect they had for Kiss after getting to know them while on tour opening up for them during the Shout At The Devil era cause they were nothing like the party animals that they portrayed themselves as being in their song lyrics.

Motley wasn't heavily influenced by KISS?!? If you don't think so you aren't really a fan. You can see it in their stage show, you can hear it in their music, they began by dressing as similar as possible without better my a blatant ripoff. Say what you want about KISS but they have had the greatest influence on the type of bands this website caters to than any other band period. But it f you think Motley has 10x better songs than KISS you need to lay off the crack pipe.

Boyz, Boyz, Boyz... And Girl (and that's one with more a heckuva lot more Rock & Roll Sensibility than half the lot of ya!)...

First off, give me a completely murdered out modified double decker bus -- 2 Party Rooms on the first level, 2 Bedrooms and a Bunk room on the second, the purpose of which is to party in during all the bands except Priest, Manson, Five Finger Death Punch, Faith No More, Mastadon, Black Veil Brides, Danzig, KISS, Crüe and Body Count.

And, sorry DJ, but you are beginning to push your luck with that one. Whatever we think of $immons and/or KISS, there's no denying their influence over nearly every Rock & Roll band that ever existed, particularly Crüe.

And, Jakki, though they may cite Scorps and Leppard as influences, Crue won't hesitate to tell you Cheap Trick is an even bigger one.
That out of the way, the biggest bang for your buck is to go there Sunday to catch KISS & Crüe and then call it a day.

But, I hate Kiss & can't stand Cheap Trick...
Saw Cheap Trick open up for Motley Crue on the 'Generation Swine' Tour...
Cheap Trick was horrible, they were being heckled mercilessly & nobody cared about the guitar players stupid windmill stunts.
I'm (not) sorry but Cheap Trick were just plain embarrassing to watch live & I've seen Winger & Firehouse in concert so that gives you an idea as to how atrocious Cheap Trick was!

Winger & Firehouse were badass (& I'm no fan of either band, though "Seventeen" is a killer song but that's it) compared to Cheap Trick.

Honestly, I saw Winger as the opening act for Faster Pussycat, Cinderella & Poison back in 2002!

& half way through their set I said "Why the hell are the roadies preforming their own set list & some stranger/girl next to me said "That's Winger Dude"

I had no clue who the hell they were???
They all looked like average everyday guys who work at my local gas station!
Very embarrassing to watch that spectacle!
I really felt sorry for Winger!
Very depressing to find out that I was actually watching them in "action"!
I never felt such shame in my life!

So the official roll-out is a bit different than the one seen on this poster (at present, the skeleton of Friday and Saturday are posted, but nothing re: Sunday). Still, it looks to be generally the same.

It would be fun to see Royal Blood (I am a fan and find them far more interesting than the White Stripes). Also, it would be worth a laugh and stroll down memory lane to see the Sicilian Grandmother in a fishnet tube-top (otherwise known as Danzig). Billy and the Hair Plugs would also be a treat, as he is also backed by an Italian Grandma who still shreds like the Parmesan is made out of dollar store truffles.

But let me wade further into the mare's nest--the hypothetical line-up--that is occurring directly above me. First, MC v. KISS. At this point, KISS wins on spectacle and musicianship, putting aside what you think of Thayer and Singer or Paul's voice, or that my favorite artist out of both is Mars. I'd be hesitant to give KISS too much credit re: inspiration of other bands. But it stands to reason that their catalog has done more historically to inspire bands, such as MC, to pick music as a vocation.

Rita is right on the hypothetical-turned-real line-up issue: Priest by a wide margin, based on any of the metrics used above and still others as well. Visually stunning but musically repetitive, Slipknot are one part of the Alice (and then KISS, and then WASP, and then . . .) playbook melded to a 90s hook that was set on auto-pilot. I'd prefer Manson, as he is more daring while also as interesting to watch live.

Jakki, is it possible you saw CT on a bad night? I won't begrudge you your opinion. I am just curious. And the whole "never dress another person up" KISS vs. MC argument is an interesting "what if," even if it doesn't really make sense contextually (they never did dress up per se so they didn't need to make Corabi look like Neil when he stepped in). I will defer on the "phoney" issue as well as the legitimacy issue, given that both bands have done and said things--in interviews and on tour--that suggest elastic eloquence and shaky/inconsistent logic, all the while trading in music that inspires passion rather than devoted transcription.

Metalboy!, will you be taking reservations on this mythical party bus of which you speak? Ground floor or top deck, I'd take a risk and a ride.

Maybe I did?, but Cheap Trick really did not/could not capture anybody's attention that night. I'll give Cheap Trick the benefit of the doubt cause back then old school Motley fans were not really in attendance at that show. It was very much a young crowd & considering that Cheap Trick had been around much longer than Motley, I'm pretty sure most people in attendance had no idea who they were. I knew exactly who Cheap Trick was & it really was bad, they are the only band I've ever seen that was just so lifeless & clueless as how to grab the audience. By far they win the award for most dead crowd at a concert I've been to. I've seen local unsigned bands get more of a reaction.

Cause I felt bad for Winger (like when a stand up comedian is bombing & you just kinda cringe), they were very pedestrian. They never introduced themselves or nothing. I just saw roadies testing the mics & stuff & ostensibly Winger came out indistinguishable from the roadies & just started playing songs I had never heard before. None of my friends who I went w/were fans of Winger. We all loved Poison, Faster Pussycat & Cinderella but not Winger & seeing them live really did not convert any of us into fans. Actually they just made us laugh at how bad & unassuming they were, nothing special at all.

Seems a little crazy! You never heard their songs? They sounded bad? I also love the bands you mentioned, and Winger is better live than all three of them!
