Farewell Bobby Keys

Bobby Keys, saxophone player for the Rolling Stones, has died. He was 70. He's on recordings like "Brown Sugar" and "Live With Me." Keys was with the Stones for more than 40 years. While he was never an official band member, his musicianship can't be denied. I can't even imagine being in one job that long. Quite a legacy. The Rolling Stones released an official statement after Bobby's death:

"The Rolling Stones are devastated by the loss of their very dear friend and legendary saxophone player, Bobby Keys. Bobby made a unique musical contribution to the band since the 1960s. He will be greatly missed."

Let's not forget that bobby Keys also delivered lots of red hot saxophone on one of the greatest live albums of all time, Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen.

God Bless & God Speed, Bobby Keys! "Happy", "Live With Me", "Emotional Rescue", "Rip This Joint", "Brown Sugar", "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)", "All Down The Line", "Bitch", "Let It Rock", "Rocks Off", "Dance (Pt. 1)" and my personal fave he played on, the exquisite Mick Taylor penned, "Can't You Hear Me Knocking". These are songs that just wouldn't be the immortal Stones tracks they are if it weren't for Keys.

Addendum: Bobby Keys also played on many albums by various artists such as John Lennon (including the #1 hit, "Whatever Gets You Through The Night"), George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Ringo Starr, Ron Wood, Barbara Streisand, Carly Simon, Chuck Berry, Donovan, Dr. John, Faces, Harry Nilsson, Warren Zevon, Humble Pie, Marvin Gaye, Keith Moon, Jim Carroll and believe it or not, Lynyrd Skynyrd ("Second Helping").
