'Personal Jesus' - The Def Leppard Cover

Def Leppard hung out in the Spotify studios recently and recorded a cover of the Depeche Mode classic "Personal Jesus." It's an interesting little take from Def Leppard and good music to roll us into Friday.

I have my chiropractor appointment today, finally! Hopefully I will get some relief for my back. I was able to bend over yesterday so I think things are progressing the right way!

Gross. I dare anyone to come up with the last relevant, quality song this group came out with. That's my challenge to you. And don't get me wrong, I liked this band at one point when they were still trying.

I liked "Now" and "Long, Long Way to Go" off the album "X" from a few years ago, but think their best stuff is from thirty plus years ago.
Saw on Instagram yesterday that it was the 40th anniversary of their first concert at a school in Sheffield. Fortieth! Holy crap.
Hope you can get some relief; back pain can be miserable.
BK, have a great weekend.

BK I will take the bait - How about Coming Under Fire or Too Late for Love or Die Hard the Hunter? anything off of High an Dry? I am a pre-Hysteria fan. Miss Steve Clark bad. On through the Night has some high points as well.

I think it's a fun version!

bk: still trying? they already made it. They stood together through thick and thin. From Rick Allen to Steve Clark. I find little, if any, fault in their band. History proves that we love the band known as Def Leppard. Regardless of songs, performances, output or any any other theatric...Def Leppard rocks...to this day. ...yet, still not my favorite. Instead, I give credit where credit is due.

Yes fletch, they're a great nostalgia act. But as proven, they haven't put anything out worth a shit, in over 20 yrs now. Sorry, just calling a spade a spade. This is coming from someone that has Hysteria in their top 3 all time CDs(only behind Shout & Master of Puppets), so im def not a hater!

Not sure what is wrong with your ears. How can you argue with songs like Wings Of An Angel and Last Dance which are both essential. Dangerous, We Belong, Blind Faith, etc... And those are all from 2015's self-titled release..

Just because we don't live in the era of Dial MTV and the Top 20 Video Countdown doesn't mean Leppard isn't at the top of their songwriting game. It's not 1988 anymore.

Where's your album? Where's your masterpiece?

Well, that's my opinion. Should I now release an album before I give my opinion on any musical artist? Good talk!

This is amusing and probably the first time you could ever actually think of Def Leppard as hip.

However, the song also serves as a delivery system for Elliott to “sing” on key since it’s like 8 octaves lower than the rest of Def Leppard’s catalog, something which, let’s face it, he struggles with now.

BK! I humbly accept your challenge ... “Dangerous” is the last great Def Leppard song, better than the last round of semi-decent tunes they rolled out before their career essentially ended with pap like “When Love & Hate Collide”, “Two Steps Behind” or “Miss You In A Heartbeat”.

“Dangerous” is superior to sappy stuff like that but not quite as good as their stellar top hits like “Photograph”, “Foolin’” or “Bringin’ On The Heartbreak”. And even though “Dangerous” may have been done in the same vein as those tracks (some have even said it’s an outtake from that era), they are far better.

Hope the appointment goes well, Allyson!

I don't think bkallday's question is a bad one at all. And, Ken, no need to stoop to the "where's your album?" sort of blather. What is this? Blabbermouth? I think Gary (as always) got my point across more humorously. But still.

That said, what is your last favorite song by them, bkallday? Mine is going to get some laughs. But I go with "Gods of War." At the time the album was released, I thought it had some heft and was a bit heavier than the rest of the album (which I didn't mind, though I prefer almost anything before that album nowadays).

Lep can cover Styx if they want. Still doesn't make it good or interesting. In fact, I would rather here Dep cover "Bringin' On The Heartbreak." But then I was actually thinking about a better song for Lep to cover from Dep's catalog. Given their current 'sound', I would think "Just Can't Get Enough" was a better fit. Or maybe a mash-up that involves a cover already: "Switch 66." Or one that plucks at the heart-strings: "People Are Two Steps Behind."

Metalboy! is right though: this allows Old English Granny to "speak" the song (even if he has sounded a lot better recently). But what do I know? I don't have any albums out either. So I am just a bumpkin with a thought.

Good call on Dangerous, MB. I did like that song when that cd was released, ill hafta admit. So yeah, there's one, so technically I was wrong.
