'On Through The Night' - 40 Years Later

Def Leppard's classic On Through the Night is now 40. Such an amazing album. Really underrated in their canon, actually. I love the old clips of the band when they were so young!

Obligatory Covid-19 post of the day:

I thought the Litany Against Fear version of the hand washing meme was the best:

Good of the fellows to carry on in the face of a series of tragedies. By all accounts, they remain a popular live act.

But I miss the Willis years. They had a harder and rougher edge to them, even if they were already clearly interested in harmonies and poppy stuff. Not saying that was because of Willis, just saying.

why don’t they celebrate by playing some songs from the album when they tour this year.

I agree, Stu. A few of the older classics would be a great gesture. They would likely have to slow them down a touch. But still I wonder if their current fans would know or welcome the nod to the early years. They admittedly have a solid roster of songs that carried them through their golden years of chart success.

I got into Lep with Pyromania. I admit, I also enjoyed Hysteria. But I go back to the first two LPs more often.

I bought “On Through The Night” and “High ‘N’ Dry” BEFORE “Pyromania” came out ...

Certainly, to Stu’s point, they could celebrate “On Through The Night”’s 40th by adding “Rocks Off” to the set list for their upcoming tour, as it got a fair amount of rotation on MTV and more so once “Pyromania” gained nearly instant success.

p.s. Hats off to ‘em for their public service message to keep it clean, though, you’re right, Gogmagog, the “Litany of Fear” handwashing meme is quite clever AND funny! Thanks for sharing. And I’m glad social distancing and handwashing have become a thing, since I’ve been practicing both for decades!

I'm with you, Metalboy! Carried around hand sanitizer for years (and realize it is a good and bad thing, natch). I did/do it as much to get that nasty smoke smell off my hands. But still. A couple of my friends (yup, I have at least two) begrudgingly gave me the 'nod' last week. See? Even lame Him occasionally walks smack dab into a best practices sort of thing!!!

@HIM Yes Willis was a great guitar player and Phil has even acknowledged he respects Pete's playing and loves the first two albums. @Metalboy yes I as well had those two albums first in order because I was into the NWOBHM -Hello America basically were here to kick your ass ...

Guaranteed those two are cross dressers. Not that theres anything wrong with that, of course.
