Carolina Rebellion Lineup Announced
An expanded Carolina Rebellion returns May 4 & 5 at Rock City Campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. After uncharted success in 2012, the Mid-Atlantic’s biggest rock festival is growing to two full days in its third year and will feature more camping and VIP space at its new location.
Carolina Rebellion 2013 features a lineup full of rock heavyweights, including: Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Limp Bizkit, Rise Against, Bush, Deftones, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, Bullet For My Valentine, Buckcherry, Volbeat, Halestorm, Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Steel Panther, Device (with David Draiman), Hollywood Undead, Sick Puppies, In This Moment, Escape The Fate, Pop Evil, Nonpoint, Otherwise, Aranda, Thousand Foot Krutch, Red Line Chemistry, Young Guns, Tracer, American Fangs and Heaven's Basement.
The bands listed above will perform on one of the three festival stages: the Monster Energy ‘Carolina Stage’, the Monster Energy ‘Rebellion Stage’ and the Jägermeister Stage. In addition, f.y.e will have a special artist tent where bands will stop by throughout the day to meet fans and sign their CDs.
"After wrapping up our last U.S. tour, we were planning on recharging our batteries for awhile, but we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play with the mighty Soundgarden in what will be one of the only shows we'll play in the U.S. this year," says Tim Mcllrath of Rise Against.
Michael Poulsen of Volbeat comments, "In Europe and the U.S., we have enjoyed the experiences that come from being a part of the festival environment, just as the fans do. Looking forward to Carolina Rebellion!”
"The ‘Rebels’ spoke and we listened,” says Gary Spivack, Co-Executive Producer of the event for Right Arm Entertainment. “More days, a new venue, huge bands…It’s our mission for Rebellion to be the biggest and best rock festival in the entire Mid-Atlantic region. We have our home at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and can't wait for May 4 and 5!"

Who the h*ll wants to stick around on a Sunday, if it's at all avoidable? Unless you're going to plan your vacation around this. And who wants to do that considering the yawner of a line-up.
M3 does it right -- An abbreviated but action packed Friday night line-up and then a full day Saturday line-up, including the festival's headliners.
At least that's the formula though they haven't got the totally killer headliner yet. Should I hold my breath? I'm concerned the M3 promoters may be establishing a precedent -- Halfas*ing the line-up every other year.
Explained: Last year was killer -- RATT as the big performer with a legendary performance. The year before -- Mediocre with Twisted Sister and Whitesnake as the headliners. The year previous to that -- Fantastic line-up with Scorpions and Cinderella headlining.
This seems, as time goes on, to be an issue with many AEG sponsored and co-sponsored events. They have a stable of acts that they squirt out each summer on command. And while it is getting more and more difficult to pack a show with nostalgia acts or to set a consistent tone mixing newer and older ones, it smacks of quantity over quality.
Compare it to the 90s Ozzfest (a fairly consistent focus on older and newer metal acts, though with an occasional odd choice . ... Primus) or even Coachella (set up from the word "go" to be a diverse trip through varied genres). In contrast, AEG picks a couple of known bands and some used to be known acts (Bush) and then floods the rest of it with stuff (and, granted, some people like the stuff).
You also bring up another template to further consider...
The success of the format of Ozzfest mixing older and newer acts.
Now reimagine that for M3... If the organizers and promoters of M3, for example, really had vision, they would add the new Swedish Glam Metal acts plus the likes of Black Veil Brides into the mix.
Imagine a line-up consisting of W.A.S.P., Black Veil Brides Cinderella and Crash Diet among others, for example.
The music and style of each band feed off one another, bringing what would be a multi-generational audience together.
p.s. How about Black Veil Brides, Cinderella, Sixx A.M. And Poison?
Besides, there's not one darned act that I want to see.

I have nothing against corporate rock doing what corporate rock does: if it sells, then why wouldn't they do it? But I love the idea of European-style festivals here in the States or at least more European acts (as Brian noted).
But there are logistical issues all over the place. Rocklahoma had a great concept but not enough lucre to keep it going without binding themselves to AEG. Rock n' America had the potential to be a replacement along pretty clear metal lines. But the promoter lost his shirt (and the promotion wasn't well-planned either). I also think it is harder for bands to jump back and forth across the pond these days if they are up and comers.
And even Europe is experiencing some issues with all the festivals. Several got cancelled. Others got co-opted. So its a bit of old and new working to keep "Slam Juice Thunk Drink" Fest and "Cool Stuff We Tell You To Like" Fest as the major options in the States each summer . . . the corporations have the money. Luckily, M3 and ROTR are trying to inspire a different vibe.
I would totally go if it was W.A.S.P., Skid Row and Poison, not that I wouldn't be stoked to see G'n'R, just don't know who they could afford of the legacy acts, if they got them, however. Then again, G'n'R could headline along with a couple of the newer bands like Crash Diet and Hardcore Superstar opening for them on Sunday and then both days would ROCK!
