Stephen Pearcy Quits RATT

I had a pretty chaotic Thursday so I wasn't online at all... and when I did jump on a computer to update this website, I learned that Stephen Pearcy quit RATT. So I guess some shit went down. Pearcy released a statement regarding his decision to quit the band and here's what he said:

"After 30 years creating the band RATT and losing a real brother, Robbin, it's time that I personally part ways with the band.

I am officially done with having anything to do with them due to the constant turmoil, unresolved business, personal attacks/threats in the public forum, and most of all, the disrespect to the fans.

I'm very content and proud of the legacy and the music I’ve created. This music will live well beyond any of our lifetimes.

I owe no one anything but a huge heartfelt thank you for coming to the party for the last 30 years.

With much respect, life goes on and the music I created will continue to be heard for years to come despite the dark clouds that have lingered for far too long.

I will personally continue to make music and perform live shows.

See you out there."

So, what do we think of this? I have to say, I'm not surprised. Bobby Blotzer has made some less than happy remarks about RATT on his Facebook in the last few months. Then the band had to pull out of the Monsters of Rock cruise because Pearcy's sister died... but I felt like something else was going on behind the scenes then too. Guess my gut was right.

This has happened before, & it will all happen again.

This time, Ratt goes out with a yawn, instead of the usual whimper.

I think at this point in time drama within our favorite glam bands is pretty hilarious. That's why I love what the Crue is doing with their Final Tour. They started it all and are going out while people still care. I like Ratt but c'mon, I'm sick of this petty bullshit.

Say what you want about the Crue, but you have to respect the band for doing it right, at least by the fans which is one reason why I spent my money on them this final year. The last time I saw Ratt, I had to get up and leave till they're set was over as it just sounded bad to me and I didn't want that memory of the band to reflect what I was hearing, haha. All I can say is these petty squabbles after all these years within our bands leaves me to just not buy a ticket or spend any money on them, it's sad to go out in this manner as us fans are the ones that truly get screwed!!

Thought Carlos fit in perfect, Infestation is a solid release, when I saw em albeit 5 years ago and they rocked.

Bummer.

Sad news. Their last record was really great.

Last nights M3 pre party was amazing. Thank you Dave Dillman and your D-Toxin Productions for having these amazing bands in MD. The crowd last night was the biggest yet and they were jacked up on great rock and roll. My highlight was seeing Black Tora from Texas! They only have 3 guys in the band, but boy do they bring their straight forward rocck and roll to the show. If you don't have their EP, get it!! Of course Station, from NY are just plain amazing. Talent oozes from all of those guys. Big thing to come for the boys from Station.

Looking forward to Friday and Satuday. Thanks M3 for keeping our music alive.

I can't say that I didn't see this coming; but it's still a bummer! I do believe that this is the end of Ratt. Bobby Blotzer said some pretty ignorant things.

I love Ratt. Infestation was right up there with some of their best, imo. It's sad how theyre on their last legs, barely making a living im sure, & now they hate each other so much that they cant even co exist on tour. Our top 80's stars mustve really gotten some huge egos back in the day, & now that most of them have stopped with the serious drugs, they cant handle being a has been. Which causes turmoil within the band, & basically a pissing contest about who used to be the most famous. Its a sad situation that most of our fave bands from that era(crue, skid row, gnr, la guns, great white, ryche, etc.) now find themselves in. I just wish they would forego the whole ego trips and enjoy still being able to do what they love, while making as much $ as they possibly can. Instead, they seem content to continue being the butt of the joke and waste valuable time towards the end of their careers. It really blows!

bkallday, makes sense. How many bands from our favorite era are still out there having fun, egos aside knowing they 'have to' go out every summer to make a living.. Firehouse? Warrant?

This ALL falls on one man. Bobby Blotzer. Dude is a douchebag! Pearcy would rather hire a few guys, play to 100 people, and make less money than deal withis BS. And who can blame him. I bet Jizzy pearl comes back. He did a GREAT job in Ratt oce before. Just sucks that it will screw up Quiet Riot. I would LOVE to see JOhn Corabi sing for Ratt, however.

This is a Glam Metal disaster!

Kenny O is right, however... Pearl or Corabi would do great job singing for RATT.

Why?! Because they can both still actually sing as opposed to Pearcy. Still, it's sad, because even with his half-shot voice, he continues to be THE voice of RATT!!!

I just can't see anyone else singing for Ratt. I'll stick with Paying to see Motley and a whole bunch of newer bands that are carrying the rock n roll torch. Why does metal need drama all the time? It's a shame. It's not Ratt without Crosby but Stephen could lose his damn ego along with everybody else. Next thing you know there will be two versions of Ratt AND Lita Ford. Haha.

Ill give you Jizzy Pearl is good with QR but with Ratt he was awful! His voice just was not suited for Ratt. Pearcy def has lost his voice a bit but it still sounds better singing the Ratt songs then anyone else. If I was Pearcy I would be pissed that some judge took the name rights from the original founder. If Demartini and Blotzer were smart they would split the name fairly like he deserves and apologize! Lifes too short.

This whole thing is a shame. Infestation was a great record! Ratt without Pearcy never recorded a damn thing, Pearcy had many diffrent projects and Continued to put out new music. I bought everything he did, some ok ( nitronic) some awesome (vertex,Arcade). Who knows if the album Ratt was working on will ever be heard! That blows!

Sorry, I saw RATT with Jizzo and when they played, 3/4 of the people left cause he was horrible. His voice wasn't good for RATT
April 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJimbo
Hmmm.. Good info, guys. On second thought, you're absolutely right -- no one else can sing those songs accept Pearcy.

I'm lucky I saw RATT with him fronting at M3 a couple of years back, the first night Croucier rejoined after 19 years. Also, saw 'em with Crosby at Hammerjack's in 1990, when Crosby shook my hand from the stage.

And, Ripper!... I couldn't agree more, DiMartini and Blotzer ought to do what's right when it comes to renegotiating the rights to the RATT name to give Pearcy a fair shake.

That would reduce a lot of the tension and drama plaguing this band and effecting the fans. Just ask EVERYONE who got jipped by RATT's last minute cancellation on The Monsters of Rock Cruise".

Maybe Ace could help with this? I've been reading an awful lot of quotes from people that have met Pearcy over the years, and about 95% of them claim he's a huge douche nozzle. Blotz proves he is through his myriad of drunken facebook goon babble rants.Makes you wonder how the hell they stayed together this long? Also,I read today where Pearcy claims he wrote the majority of the music,as he is "first and foremost a guitarist". Anybody know if this is true? I just took it for granted that Warren or Robbin were responsible for most of the killer riffs and hooks over the years? I've never even seen a pic of Pearcy with a guitar? LOL. (Ace,help please.)

Also, Warren DiMartini is on record (That Metal Show) as crediting Jake E. Lee for helping he and Crosby out piecing together their songs though he's never been formally credited in the publishing. Pearcy is well credited.

Regardless of the sad realities of RATT, through the ash dust still remains one of THE Greatest 80's Glam Metal Bands of All Time!

"Round And Round" is by far the most definitive anthem of the genre and no one will ever take that away from them. Not even themselves.

p.s. Gary, I agree. We need our Ace L.A. Metal Expert, Mr. Steele, to tell us what the dealio is with these guys. Maybe he might also have some intel to explain their legal disputes.
