Bon Jovi, 'Legendary' - Lyric Video

Bon Jovi now has a lyric video for their new single "Legendary." From the upcoming album Forever. I think lyric videos are the modern version of liner note lyrics sheets. I mean, most folks don't buy physical media anymore and everyone is attached to a cellphone, meaning lyric videos are always at hand.

Not entirely horrible if you take it for what is, generic pop rock which is what Jon puts out now. Expecting the old Bon Jovi is a pipe dream for all of us old heads. Kudos to Jon for still grinding. This won't be on any of my playlists.

In days of yore, when I posted more frequently, I used to bag on An Chovi . . . A LOT. But I was also always careful to note that his work with charities should be applauded, as should the song "In and Out of Love" (from an album which he dislikes).

Like many artists of his era, his vocals are toast. And some were toasted bread before unexpected health-related vocal issues and surgeries. Still others were hampered by a clear disregard for their 'instrument'. And, yeah, age. That's a thing too. Meine will eventually just whisper until the crowd chants back: "WHAT!?!?!?!" By the way, the former is 62 and the latter is 75. We ain't talking about massive upswings in what they can do, somewhat independent of the causes.

As Jeff suggests, this is fodder for the fans who still like his band and still don't mind his pivot to generic sounds and filled-in vocals, not a recent occurrence on either count. And, if you like it, cool. Here's the thing, though. I hope he retires and spares his fans and his legacy the harm, even if he can still pull in good enough numbers. And I give him credit: he seems to suggest that is a real option . . . unless, of course, it is just a way to build interest and sell more tickets to fans who love the Hoarse with a Name.
