We Can Finally Order 'The Royal Scam' Vinyl Remaster!

I cannot express how excited I am for this! UMe will release the remastered version of Steely Dan's The Royal Scam on June 6. The album has never been remastered and it is my very favorite Dan work!

I'm getting the Ultra High-Quality vinyl (UHQ) version of the remaster which is very expensive. When the remaster series was announced years ago, I knew I would be holding out for The Royal Scam high quality version. This version apparently comes with a certificate of verification or some such. I don't really care about that; I just want the extra clear sound! Also cool that it is 200 gram - flat.

This has always been my favorite Steely Dan album, as well.

Every song a story of wit and cleverness.

Every song a musical masterpiece.

I played the original vinyl to death over and over again when it came out just 5 days after my 16th birthday, reading the lyrics as the album played.

Enjoy!

Damn, mb. You're old. Keep pining for that Zeppelin reunion, too.

Great album by a band both loved and loathed. Moving on.

Ah, the great vinyl gram discussion. Would it amaze you to know that a lot of those groovy 70s vinyls were 110-120? Oh no, poor quality, right? Not at all. And a weighted vinyl based on a poor source will sound . . . poor. Yes, heavier can help for certain aspects of playing the darn thing (things like vibration and skipping, if you are comparing a floppy to a slab, so to speak). But the source for the ooze in the grooves is what matters most. And, as I have read while laughing on some sites, it is actually fun to weigh your records and see what you come up with!

Reading the particulars, this SD release sounds like a nicely put together package (though there are some of those tell-take signs of 'breathless' selling in the press release). But, generally speaking, highlighting those grams is a way to get more dollars, not better sound. And I say this as a person who has purchased quite a few reissues over the past few years and spent a bit of time studying why they market them as they do . . . because they are charging us a lot for what we get.

Circling back, I think you are gonna love this release, Allyson. Not at all try to put a damper on that, just as I am quite giddy with some of my more recent purchases. Enjoy!
